Songs

September 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I was meditating some time in 2002 and wrote a song. I didn’t write any music for it. It was just a spontaneous expression of emotion that came out in a lyrical way. It was my birthday…*smiles*:

Oh how I float below, above, below the clouds…

Oh how I float below, above, below the clouds…

Oh how I float below, above, below the clouds…

Circling round the earth,

I learn the ways of light and joy.

I learn the ways of shadow and pain.

I see the truth in reflected in all of life.

Oh how I float below, above, below the clouds…

Oh how I float below, above, below the clouds…

Oh how I float below, above, below the clouds…

Circling round the earth…circling round the earth…circling round the earth…

Later on the day or that week. At the time I had a habit of not noting the date in my journals, I wrote:

We walk through dappled light. Eyes dazzled. Flickers of color hint at birds darting through trees. The muscky smells of leaf and pine decomposing along the path draw the heart on. Lady slippers peak through the cover of ferns. We whisper and giggle. We catch fingers together and lean toward one another, flirting and teasing. Love blooms along with the spring. © 2002 Shannee Green

And here’s a poem on the opposing page of that same journal:

Joy

You love me, joy is mine,

You love meee, joyoy is mine.

Blessings be, rising in me. Let joy rise in me!

Some of the very rare occasions that I felt poetic in my life until recent years. That last one was sing-song and I think I did once add a music of a sort to it, more of a chant really. I skipped around the house celebrating that I was writing poetry and songs, even if they weren’t ‘good’ stuff I could publish. *smiles* I would surely have never thought to publish these anywhere. I didn’t even admit I’d written them until today. But I think that every artist starts somewhere and honoring our fledgling efforts is a beautiful thing. Even if I never do anything of interest with my poetry or songs, it brings me joy to write them and to share the heart behind them, which I see is full of earnestness and beauty, even if they aren’t fabulous as technical peices. Art is about soul and heart, not about ‘good’ or marketable. If it is also that, well isn’t that a blessing. Frankly, I often think that the only difference between a fabulous artist and a mediocre one is the patronage and publicist involved. Art appeals to someone. Always. So I’m just going to celebrate the fact that my writing brings me joy and keep on doing it.

Fameni

Recently I published a poem called One’s Kiss and I illustrated it with an image by Fameni. I really like this work. I happened across it on a blog somewhere and dropped a link into my book marks. I don’t know who’s blog it was now, but I am very glad to have discovered this work. Its hedonistic, naughty and full of wonderful color. Here’a few of my favorites which can be found at this site:
